A fleeting moment of strange shimmer on tar roads after rain when the surface briefly turns iridescent ; something ordinary is suddenly luminous.

This is a classroom project that began with an idea of capturing the phenomenon of thin layer interference in a woven structure. Two layers woven simultaneously, partially visible through one another switching between leno, plain and twill structures. Cotton grounds the surface while nylon, holographic yarn and colored zari weave in and out catching light as they move. Painting over a grey woven structure with dyes and using space-dyed weft yarns created stain-like reflections while woven holographic yarns overlooking the layer of woven zari yarns meant to create the illusion of color there is, to the phenomenon.

Melange lies between material, light and the perception that blurs when you least expect it.
